You're not your money archetype 2/2
Reading time: 4 minutes
Now that you have a better sense of your Money Type, what comes next?
Changing your Money Type isn’t necessary to solve your financial challenges. Instead, embracing it and understanding how it shapes your financial behaviour can bring you closer to who you really are.
Have you ever felt anxious when checking your bank balance? Or have you ever been afraid of loosing money when investing?
Whatever your feelings, deep down, anxiety and fear can’t define you.
In fact, the same anxiety and fear prevent you from becoming the person you truly are.
We all have money types that can make life challenging, whether it's striving for success, being overly generous or stingy, or becoming dependent on others’ validation.
In last week’s newsletter, we explored how we are not defined by our personalities, just as we aren’t defined by our money types. Remember money types are just a pair of lenses through which we view the complex world of finances. And there is not such thing as a money type better than the other. If you missed it, you can read it here.
Real freedom isn’t about following every whim or impulse. True freedom comes from pursuing our deepest aspirations without being constrained by the fears or limitations imposed by our money types.
In other words, to be your true self, you must evolve beyond the limitations of your money type.
We can’t escape these money types, but we can learn to evolve within them.
Small difference. Big impact.
Take Elena, for example. She’s a big spender, but has no debt. Elena is a successful Director, she earns well, but avoids managing her money, she has 0 investment.
"I don’t like numbers, or maybe numbers just don’t like me" said Elena in our first encounter.
Her Innocent Money Type doesn’t define her. Instead, it’s a barrier preventing her from becoming her truest self.
In other words, her reluctance to manage her finances holds her back from becoming who she is really.
Elena has begun to focus on her identity, instead of fleeing from her fears. While she once dreamed of someone saving her from her financial struggles, she now strives to take charge of her finances and become a role model for her nieces.
This change in perspective helps her confront her fears, overcome her limiting money beliefs. There's no more running away.
Finally, she has learned to prioritise her financial health so that she can fully express herself.
Today, she has gained the skills to manage her money effectively, empowering her to do more and give more: 2 core values that truly resonate with her.
Now, Elena dedicates time to personal growth, exploring her passion for acting on the side, and enhancing her communication skills. She also takes pride in financially supporting her parents and nieces.
Begin with the end in mind
The key is to focus on who you want to become based on your money type.
It may sound simple, but it’s not easy.
You might instinctively think of answers like “freedom,” “security,” or “love,” but what do those concepts truly look like in your life?
You may not have the perfect answer right away, and that’s perfectly fine. Keep refining your vision every month, every year, whenever you need it.
For example, let’s consider the Victim Money Type.
Typically, this type tends to blame others for their problems, whether it's the past, their parents, or the system, they often avoid taking responsibility for their lives (that was me btw!).
Victims often struggle with a fear of worthlessness, getting stuck in the past and worrying about things they can’t control.
But what if we flipped the script? What if we embraced our whole story and recognised our role in it?
By doing this, we can start becoming an actor/actress in our own lives instead of playing the victim. This identity shift helps us learn to love ourselves, take pride in who we are, and really live in the moment.
Money types and their evolution
Each Money Type has its unique fears, end goals and remedy. Below you will find a table that summarises the 8 money types.
By embracing your archetype and evolving within it, you can move closer to living a life that truly reflects who you are at your core.
